A complete Post Medieval cast copper alloy sword-belt fitting (16th-17th century). The fitting consists of a trapezoidal plate with a hook, and would have been attached onto a scabbard strap. The plate has a D-shaped section with a flat back. The exterior edges of the front face of the plate are slightly bevelled. Along the narrow edge of the plate opposite the hook end of the mount, the plate divides into two pointed flat knops. The recession between the two knops is slightly off-centre. Aligned with this recession are two rivet holes, the one closest to the hook is a large circular attachment hole, the other is a good deal smaller. The junction between the plate and the hook is marked by a widening of the plate into a square-edged collar. The collar has an incised horizontal trough along its centre. The hook has a bevelled trapezoidal-section with a flat back, but narrows along its length and becomes more curved, so that by the end it has more of a D-shaped section. The hook curves around from the front of the mount, 8.7mm towards the reverse of the plate. Whereas the front surface of the fitting has a smooth finish, the reverse has been left rough from the casting process. The fitting has a dark brown-green patina. Dimensions: length: 40.7mm; width: 12.7mm; thickness: 1.9mm; weight: 3.11g.
