Treasure case 2009 T602. A gold ingot, date currently uncertain. The object measures 27.4 mm in length and 8.1 mm wide. It is lozenge shaped, flat on one side with a slight ridge on one side. It weighs 10.2 grams.
Barry Ager writes 'The ingot consists of a bar of ovoid section with rounded ends; length, 27 mm'
Surface metal analysis conducted at the British Museum indicated an approximate gold content of 89-91%, silver content of 7-9%, and 2% or more of copper. The ingot weighs 10.28 grams.
Notes:
The ingot shows no diagnostic features and the composition of the metal is not particularly diagnostic of date. The ingot does not therefore qualify as Treasure under the stipulated criteria of the Treasure Act.
