The fragment consists of part of the wall of a Roman tegula tile, the lower section of the overlapping Roman roof tile pattern in which curved imbrex tiles were laid over the adjoining walls of a row of tegulae underneath. The upper edge of this tegula wall is the only side of the fragment that remains complete; the other three edges are broken. The tile has been hand built from a buff, highly-fired stoneware fabric with quartz tempering. One side of the tile fragment has a large area of concretion with gritty inclusions.
