Cast cooper alloy Dolphin brooch with hinge mechanism. Roman. 1st -2nd century AD. The wings are 19mm wide 3mm in diameter, creating a closed box for the axial bar to fit. A vertical slot for the pin to fit round the axial bar is placed centrally at the back of the wings. The pin is missing. A comma-shaped bow, 8mm wide at the head and 42mm long. The bow is flat at the back, making it almost triangular in section. The bow tapers down to a point. The catchplate runs 16mm up the back of the bow from the tip. Type 94 in Crummy, 1983. Fig 158 in Hattat's visual catalogue.
