<full>9 coarse limestone tesserae. These are small rough blocks of grey to off&#45;white stone (probably Purbeck limestone). The upper surfaces are worn. 
The largest is 40 mm x 37 mm x 19 mm and the smallest is 26 mm x 23 mm x 19 mm. Such pieces (often together with blocks of tile) were used to make floors in Roman villas and other buildings. The coarse finish of these and their size mean that these would be used to make the plain borders around finer tesselated floor and mosaics and to floor passage ways etc.
