Brighstone, Isle of Wight: Medieval silver-gilt finger-ring (2009 T287) Date: 15th century Discovery: Found by Mr Terry Orme while metal-detecting in May 2009. Description: A medieval silver-gilt finger-ring, the bezel formed of two clasped hands. The ridged shoulders of the ring represent cuffs. A small portion of the hoop survives at either side of the bezel and this is flat in section. Discussion: Dimensions: Length: 17.9mm; width: 6.6mm; thickness: 2.3mm; weight: 1.65g. Metal content: The find contains a minimum of 10% silver and predates 1700. It thus qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996 in terms of precious metal content and age.
