STRAP FITTING

An incomplete cast copper-alloy strap slide, dating to between the 1st century BC and the 1st century AD. The front face of the slide consists of a circular cup which appears to have lost its central setting, possible a stone or enamel work. Projecting out from the reverse is the rectangular loop of the strap slide. The metal is a light brownish-green mottled colour and is pitted. This strap slide is similar to others that have been found in Yorkshire and the North-east. It survives in a very good condition.
