{"recordID":"257649","finds":[{"created2":"2009 05 27","description":"A gold half-stater of the continental Iron Age, 3rd-2nd century BC.\r\n\r\nSomeone from Chris Rudd has identified the coin as a Hesperange type of half-stater, class 1, around 2nd century BC and sometimes referred to as a hemistatere a la fleur, which are sometime attributed to the province of Namur in southeast Belgium. References: BN 10280, Scheers\/GB fig 41, 42; Sills 161, 162; DT 31. It was probably struck from worn, rusty dies, but the obverse probably contained the head of Apollo facing right, and a biga on the reverse.\r\n\r\nAn expert at the British Museum has provided a less precise identification, but notes that the size is indicative of a stater, rather than a half-stater, though it is too light in weight to be a stater, unless very worn and debased. It is however in the early Gaulish tradition, and Sills dates the Esperange types to the late 3rd century BC.","notes":null,"old_findID":"NCL-D49064","id":"257649","objecttype":"Coin","classification":null,"subclass":null,"reuse":null,"created":"2009-05-27 15:08:39","broadperiod":"IRON AGE","updated":"2011-02-24 13:47:52","treasureID":null,"secwfstage":"4","secuid":"0014A1D496701664","findofnote":"0","objecttypecert":"1","datefound1":"2009-02-01","datefound2":null,"createdBy":"438","curr_loc":null,"inscription":null,"reason":null,"subsequentAction":null}],"record":[{"id":"257649","old_findID":"NCL-D49064","uniqueID":"0014A1D496701664","objecttype":"Coin","classification":null,"subclass":null,"length":null,"height":null,"width":null,"thickness":"1.9","diameter":"17.47","quantity":"1","other_ref":null,"treasureID":null,"broadperiod":"IRON AGE","numdate1":"-300","numdate2":"-100","description":"A gold half-stater of the continental Iron Age, 3rd-2nd century BC.\r\n\r\nSomeone from Chris Rudd has identified the coin as a Hesperange type of half-stater, class 1, around 2nd century BC and sometimes referred to as a hemistatere a la fleur, which are sometime attributed to the province of Namur in southeast Belgium.
