A small well formed and elaborately finished Neolithic thumb scraper, designed to be held between your thumb and forefinger. The scraper has a shallow plano-convex section, with one rounded side and one convex. The flint is roughly oval in overall shape. It has been formed from a mid reddish-brown flint. The bulb of percussion and striking platform both survive, and the ripples of percussion are evident. The retouch is shallow and elaborate. The face with the retouch is partially coated with cortex. Scrapers like this would have had many different functions in the Neolithic, as they were very useful tools, used for example for skinning animals, removing the fatty deposited from hinds and much more.
