A complete and misshapen posy finger-ring of post-Medieval date. Treasure case no. 2009 T257. The outer face of the hoop is engraved with four evenly spaced composite flower heads and the inside of the hoop is inscribed: Let vertue be a guide to thee. A stamped maker's mark at the end of the inscription is formed by initials: I W.
Notes:
17th-18th century Discovery: Found by Mr D Mulcahy while metal-detecting in May 2009.
A complete and misshapen gold posy ring. The outer face of the hoop is engraved with four evenly spaced composite flower heads and the inside of the hoop is inscribed: Let vertue be a guide to thee. A stamped maker's mark at the end of the inscription is formed by initials: I W.
The find contains a minimum of 10% gold. Consequently, in terms of age and as the object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.
This has been noted as an interesting find by the recorder.
