The handle is plain, egg shape in plan and D shaped in section with the exterior surface flat and interior curved. At the tip of the narrower end are the remains of the shank which is rectangular in section. This represents the break of the loop from the scissors, this break has been smoothed. In appearance this is very similar to a medieval stirrup-shaped finger ring. It is possible that it may have been reused as such but without a setting.
