MOUNT

Unique ID: YORYM-8E07E6

Object type certainty: Certain

A cast copper alloy mount, probably from a vehicle. The mount has a base or back shaped like a sexfoil; adjoining the upper and lower lobes are two perforated lugs. From the centre of this backplate protrudes a three-dimensional, realistic likeness of a wild boar’s head and forelegs. This artefact was found by detectorists from Lancashire on a farm in Osbaldwick; a cast was made of the artefact (this replica was kept by the farmer), and the original was bought from the farmer. This potentially unique artefact probably dates to the 1st or 2nd century. (Recorded from the replica)
