Silver hawking vervel. Report on post-medieval silver hawking vervel from Puddletown, Dorset, 2007 T168 Silver hawking vervel; small silver ring of D section engraved on the outside in italic script: *At mounckton in dorsett. Hawking rings record the owner's name and sometimes their county, and were attached to the leather jesses or thongs on the hawk's legs which attached the bird to the block. The script and form of this ring can be compared with others in the BM collection and published examples from Norfolk and elsewhere. 17th Century. As such, due to its age and precious metal content, this object qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.
