Gold finger-ring. Partly squashed irregular hexagonal bezel of carinated profile set with a purplish blue stone (probably a sapphire) en cabochon. The distorted and incomplete flat-sectioned hoop is decorated with engraved chevrons alternating with groups of tiny punched annulets. The decoration of the hoop is similar to that on a ring with irregular pentagonal bezel found at Whitstable, Kent (Dalton 1912, 253, cat. no. 1773; Oman 1974, 93, pl. 14B). The finger-ring dates to the 13th century.
Dimensions: Bezel 9.5 x 10mm., thickness 4mm. Hoop width 2 - 2.5mm, thickness 0.25 - 0.7mm. Weight 1.15g.
