The strap was secured within a V-shaped split (12mm long), which would have been attached by two rivets near the corners, now missing. The strap-end is widest at the attachment end (with a width of 8.1mm) with straight converging sides. The face is decorated with a crudely incised geometric and linear motif. The central area of the strap-end is plain with straight parallel sides and is of D-shaped section. The sub-triangular terminal is incised with a stylised beast's head, comprising semi-circular eyes near the sides and an incised triangular snout. The strap end has a slight S-shaped profile. The rear of the strap-end is plain. The surface is a grey-silver colour and there are areas where the original surface has been lost.
","Discussion: The strap-end is of Thomas' (2003, p 4) Class B form of late strap-ends, which are dated to the 9th or 10th century.

Conclusion: Visual inspection of the strap-end would suggest that the metal composition is well in excess of 10% silver. The strap-end form is typical of Anglo-Saxon strap ends of the 9th and 10th centuries. It is my opinion therefore, that the strap-end should constitute treasure as defined by the 1996 Treasure Act.","","2009-02-11 09:33:03","2011-05-26 15:46:00","4","","1","","","","","","25","1","","","","","","","","mlodwick","Mark Lodwick","NMGW","hlouth","Harriet Louth","Silver","","","","","","","","Certain","","","","Metal detector","","Mr Mark Lodwick","","Mr Mark Lodwick","HAMPSHIRE","","BASINGSTOKE AND DEANE","","","","","SU5654","SU55SE","","","","","","Hannington","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","329516","2009T065.JPG","images/hlouth/",
