All of the coins are... Treasure Act considerations Silver coins of the reign of Edward III are of high purity, of the order of ninety per cent precious metal. Groats and half groats of Edward III are common as individual finds; however, the finding of three coins closely similar in date and in similar condition suggests the possibility of an original association. Ploughing and other agricultural activities are frequently responsible for wide scattering of associated groups and the reported separation of twenty yards is by no means exceptional. It is the balance of probability that these three coins were originally associated in the ground; as a find of two or more coins containing at least ten per cent of silver by weight and more than three hundred years old when found, these coins constitute treasure under Section 1(1)(a) of the Treasure Act 1996.
