The brooch is incomplete, missing the spring and pin and the catchplate for the pin. The head has flat upright arms that protected the spring, with verticle ribbing at each end. The head itself retains the base of the spring emerging from the centre of its back, and the hooked shank that holds the spring in place. The bow tapers from the head to a break near its tip.
