An incomplete silver-gilt annular brooch of Medieval date (c. AD 1200 - c. AD 1400) Length: 42.2mm; width: 21.9mm. Weight: 3.09g. Treasure case no. 2008 T781.
An incomplete and misshapen silver-gilt annular brooch. The hoop, circular in cross-section, is broken where it was soldered. It originally had four evenly spaced soldered plates at the front but only one of these plates has survived although the positions of the other three plates can be identified as solder marks. The surviving plate is in the form of a quatrefoil flower motif. A small portion of the pin-shaft survives. This is sub-circular in cross-section and slightly flattened on the underside. The shaft and the plain loop are divided by an encircling collar which has granulated decoration. The brooch is worn and gilding has survived mainly on the front of the plate. However, traces of gilding are also visible on the hoop and pin.
