Buckle

Unique ID: SWYOR-C53B06

Object type certainty: Certain

A copper alloy buckle plate. The plate has a slot on the buckle end where the pin would have been and one hinge survives, unfolded. The other end is straight (unbroken and deliberate) and contains one circular hole for the rivet which is still in place. It has a green and patchy brown patina and measures 25.5mm x 11.9mm x 0.8mm, weighing 1.29g. The undecorated plate is difficult to date, although similar examples with a pin slot instead of a hole and a single rivet hole seem to date to the Medieval period; 1350-1400 (Whitehead, p.74,75).
