Object type certainty: Certain
A nineteenth century lead Russian bale seal of St. Petersburg. The seal is circular and has letters on both sides. The letters are very worn in places and the date is incomplete, reading 180[ ]. Side A reads: CAB/HoR (alpha)/A??/180[ ] Side B reads: ?ARH/??TL/???.
The letters CAB (or SPB) stand for St. Petersburg. The seal indicates that the goods have been checked for quality and/or taxed. Such seals were attached to flax and hemp seed bags and finished linen.
