MOUNT

Unique ID: BH-BCC3C3

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A copper-alloy mount (probably a horse harness decoration) of probable 16th to 17th century date. The mount takes the form of a fleur-de-lis, with two curved plumes either side of a vertical central plume. A triple band of moulded grooves and ridges separates the plumes from the lower part of the mount, which comprises a rectangular plate with a roughly semi-circular cut-out at the bottom. On the reverse of the mount are four integral rivets arranged in a cross formation. Of the three surviving rivets - the left hand one is missing - the uppermost has been deliberately bent upwards and the other two have been bent downwards. The mount has a patchy mid green patina and little corrosion. It measures 56.7mm long, 38.4mm wide and 7.9mm thick. The weight is 16.27g.
