CUFF LINK

Unique ID: SWYOR-D31B73

Object type certainty: Certain

The head of a sheet-silver cufflink, circular in plan, with a relief-stamped design depicting two hearts side-by-side below a crown. The lower left-hand side is slightly damaged along the rim and now suffering from corrosion. Attachment on the reverse is now missing.

Cufflinks bearing the motif of two hearts below a crown are common treasure finds (cf. TAR 2005/6, nos. 612, 613). They are considered to have originally been produced to commemorate the marriage of Charles II to Catherine of Braganza in 1662 but continued in use as a general symbol of love and/or marriage.

I can confirm that this find contains a minimum of 10 per cent silver. Based on age and precious metal content, this find qualifies as treasure under the terms of the Treasure Act 1996.
