AXE

Unique ID: YORYM-CFA387

Object type certainty: Certain

A fragment of a late Bronze Age, socketed axe dating from 1150 – 800 BC. The axe was found as a single find. The axe fragment survives in a poor condition and much of the well-finished original surface has been lost. The mouth of the socket is experiencing some active corrosion; bronze disease is affecting the metal and is producing a light green powder. There are also some areas of heavy wear on the faces of the axe. The axe has a large mouth-moulding, with a secondary smaller mouth-moulding below. The loop has been removed with the break.
