A Medieval buckle of D shape. The straight side of the frame consists of a thin bar of uneven proportions, one end thicker than the other, with a central protuberance. A pin is attached to the bar by a simple hook. It has a rudimentary collar stamped with circular punches and is accommodated by a grooved pin-rest on the curved part of the frame. At either side of the pin-bar there is a rounded terminal also decorated with circular punches.
The buckle is silver and dates from the late thirteenth or early fourteenth century. Consequently, in terms of age and as the object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.
