{"recordID":"211645","finds":[{"created2":"2008 03 04","description":"Medieval copper alloy buckle, dating from the mid-14th to the mid-15th century\r\nThe buckle comprises an oval, lipped frame with a folded sheet plate. The buckle is near-complete, missing some of the pate and the end of the pin (with an overall, distorted length of 33.7mm and a weight of 2.7g). The oval frame (with a length of 17.8mm and a width of 19.1mm) is of trapezoidal section on the outside edge (2.9mm thick), becoming sub-rectangular on the sides. The lip has a prominent notch for the pin. The bar is narrowed and offset. The pin is of circular, tapering section (2.1mm maximum diameter) and is simply twisted around the bar. The folded sheet metal plate is rectangular (with a width of 12.4mm and a thickness of 0.6mm) and has two holes to accommodate the pin. One central rivet survives at the rear of the plate, which would have secured the buckle to the strap. There is the suggestion of an incised border surviving near the side of the front plate but no other decoration is evident. The buckle has a pale to mid green surface patina.\r\nThe buckle can be paralleled with examples recovered from excavations in London (Egan & Pritchard 1991, p 74. nos. 306-310) recovered from late 13th and 14th century contexts.
