An incomplete silver brooch pin of Medieval date (AD 1200 - AD 1400).
The pin is made of three separate elements soldered together, the shaft, the collar and the loop. The shaft of the pin is bent at an angle of about 45° from its original alignment. It is oval in section throughout its length except at the tip where it is undercut. The plain collar is made from a convex strip, the ends of which do not quite abut on the underside. The loop is oval, as viewed from the side. It is worn overall and the wear is particularly noticeable on the loop. File marks are present on the loop and collar. This pin was found together with a silver lace chape of sixteenth or early seventeenth century date. See Portable Antiquities Scheme find: IOW-7608F4.
Notes:
In terms of age and as the object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.
