Post medieval cast copper alloy S-shaped belt hook with zoomorphic terminals. Dated to the 16th or 17th century. It is formed of a single piece of copper alloy curled round at either end to act as a fixing for a belt. Each end is cast with a narrow snout or beak with an incised line for a mouth, brow ridges in relief and small incised dots for eyes. There is also a pattern of scales or feathers on the curves (which would be the back of the ‘necks’ of the animals which are perhaps intended to be snakes or swans. The hook also has a cast decorative band around the centre with leaf or feather shapes extending from both sides towards the snakes heads.
Dated c.1550-1650 AD.
