Star-shaped miners' badge of copper alloy, dated 1917. Reverse is blank, obverse bears central circle and six points. Each point is ornamented with c.8 radiating lines. The top and bottom point bears perforations for attachment, and the upper one has been broken across the hole.

The central circle bears a simple legend in 3 lines, the upper and lower lines of which curve around the arcs of the circle The legend reads: PELSALL/*1917*/MINERS

This badge would have been worn by a miner working at the Pelsall Hall colliery, near Birmingham. This colliery is best known for the mining disaster of 1872, in which 22 miners were drowned.
