Coin

Unique ID: SUR-9B28B1

Object type certainty: Certain

A worn copper alloy dupondius or as, possibly of Augustus (27 BC- AD 14), with a large S C reverse. Mint of Rome. c.f. RIC I, p. 65ff

Notes:

The style of the S C on the reverse is consistent with Asses struck by moneyers under Augustus. Such coins are very rare in Britain. The Finds Adviser would need to see this coin to confirm identification and possibly to identify it more precisely to a particular issue.
