<full>A Post-Medieval (16th to 17th century) copper alloy fragment of a zoomorphic foot from a chafing dish. The fragment is curved and the end of the foot is v-shaped; there is a punched pattern on both sides of the fragment. The pattern depicts an animal in profile with the v-shaped end forming an open mouth. The punched decoration marks out the mouth, an oval eye and an ear flowing back from the eye and the suggestion of fur on the neck. The break appears to have occurred in antiquity.

A foot from a similar chafing dish is illustrated in Lewis, J. M., 1973. ‘Some Types of Metal Chafing-Dish’. The Antiquaries Journal, Vol.LIII. Oxford: Oxford University Press. Plate XIII; Figure (d) F1. This relates to a chafing dish held at the Musée Curtius in Liège, Belgium, which is dated to between c1575 and 1650.
