Unique ID: LVPL-7F4C34

Object type certainty: Certain

Contemporary plated copy of a denarius with the obverse of Augustus (27BC-AD14) and the reverse of the Republican moneyer P. Clodius (42BC).

Notes:

The obverse type of Augustus seems to be copied from a coin of Lyon (Lugdunum) in Gaul. The reverse is copied from a coin minted in Rome. Hybrids like this are not unusual as forgers were often not careful in matching obverses and reverses of coins.
