Silver mount in the form of a cat's head, probably a male lion. The head is three imensional and depicts a cat with its ears back and mouth open. The ears are triangular in shape the brow is flat with a central transverse groove across it, the eyes are oval in shape and eyebrows heavy. The nose is protruding and rounded with heavy jowls, the teeth are shown within the open mouth. Hair frames the head.
The mount is broken at the back. It probably constituted originally a terminal of an item of jewellery such as a necklace, or possibly the head of a pin. Although this item has few diagnostic features, it seems likely that it is of Roman date.
The head measures 13.53mm in width, 12.79mm in height, it is 10.03mm in thickness and 5.67g in weight.

This item is made substantially of silver and is likely to be more than 300 years old, and thus qualifies as treasure as stipulated in the Treasure Act 1996.
