<description>
<full>Unusual gilded AE unidentified object. Domed (diam.21mm, height 10.5mm), with open&#45;work decoration filled with blue glass paste. Slightly squashed and incomplete. The open&#45;work motifs consist of a circle at the apex, then four equal&#45;sized ovoids above four equal&#45;sized sub&#45;rectangles. The lower edges of the latter are serrated. Where the glass has survived (in about one third of the underside of the dome&#45;of the surviving part of the glass filling, the material adjacent to the metal is darkish blue translucent while that towards the centre is paler blue and opaque&#45; it lies tight up against the edges of the apertures, indicating that it was inserted in a molten state. The apical round opening is now largely open but small fragments of glass around the edges show that it was once so filled and had not held some form of attachment stud or rivet. Thick gilding covers the whole of the exterior surface including parts of the underside of the rim, but is absent from the inside. There is no sign of any means of attachment, but the object, obviously decorative and non&#45;functional, might be described as a mount from some unknown article.</full>
