A cast copper alloy strap fitting; a strap loop with internal projections. In plan the frame is rectangular. The internal edge has two small sub-triangular projections which are positioned towards a corner on opposite sides. The loop is rectangular in section. The exterior surface of the outer edge is decorated with three groups of low-relief triple strands. The loop has a mid grey patina. It measures 21.98mm long, 15.38mm wide and 4.19mm thick. It weighs 2.54g.
The strap loop is Medieval. Similar strap loops are illustrated in Egan and Pritchard (Egan G. and Pritchard F. 2002 Dress Accessories Boydell Press), for example Nos.1255 and 1256 which are dated to late 13th to 14th centuries. A strap loop would be used on a belt, for example, to secure the terminal of a belt once it has passed through the buckle.
