<description>
<full>Two&#45;sided lead or lead alloy (pewter) token. It is crudely made and probably cast. On obverse side monogram design the initials &quot;RS&quot; (note that the S is reversed); on reverse side pictorial design of a rider on a horse with his right arm raised. Some modern scratching on reverse side; presumably, made by finder. The form of the letters suggests an early sixteenth to eighteenth century date. Diameter 15.5&#45;16.5mm, weight 6.0grams.</full>

<notes>Although lead tokens are a fairly common find type little is known about their date, places of issue, function and extent of circulation. The form of the letters in the monogram suggests an early sixteenth to eighteenth century date for this example but in general lead tokens in various forms are thought to have circulated from the medieval period until the nineteenth century. Tokens with initials probably had only a localised circulation.</notes>
