SHOT
Unique ID: NMGW125
Object type certainty: Certain
There are currently no images available.
Cast lead, or lead alloy, slightly ovoid shot. Diameter 12.5-13.5mm, weight 12.4 grams.
Notes:
The slightly ovoid shape of the ball may have been caused during firing; however, the lack of significant deformation suggests that the shot did not impact with its target. Shot of comparable size and weight has been identified for use with a pistol and dated to the Civil War (Courtney 1993, 159). Dating is difficult but lead shot is certainly no earlier than the sixteenth century and is possibly significantly later.
