Distorted but complete cylinder, closed at one end, with two attachment loops set at opposite sides of the cap. Mid seventeenth century in date.","notes":"Cast lead cap from a powder holder which would have been carried, presumably by a musketeer, on a bandolier. Usually each man would have carried about a dozen and they were hence often referred to as the \"twelve apostles\". The two loops which are set at opposite ends of the cap were attached to suspension cords; one end of which would be fastened to the bandolier and the other to the powder holder. The powder holders themselves were probably made from wood and rarely survive.","old_findID":"NMGW12","id":"14362","objecttype":"POWDER FLASK","classification":"Holder","subclass":null,"reuse":null,"created":"1999-07-23 00:00:00","broadperiod":"POST MEDIEVAL","updated":"2011-02-24 12:19:17","treasureID":null,"secwfstage":"3","secuid":"0013EA1612301862","findofnote":null,"objecttypecert":"1","datefound1":"1999-03-01","datefound2":null,"createdBy":"32","curr_loc":null,"inscription":null,"reason":null,"subsequentAction":"Returned to finder"}],"record":[{"id":"14362","old_findID":"NMGW12","uniqueID":"0013EA1612301862","objecttype":"POWDER FLASK","classification":"Holder","subclass":null,"length":null,"height":null,"width":null,"thickness":null,"diameter":"20","quantity":"1","other_ref":"NMGWPA:99.1.4","treasureID":null,"broadperiod":"POST MEDIEVAL","numdate1":"1650","numdate2":null,"description":"Cast lead cover from a powder holder.
