The brooch employed a spring mechanism secured by a Polden Hill type arrangement around a copper alloy axis bar. The chord was tensioned through a perforated lug on the head. The wings have a width of 26.11mm. The ends of the wings are angled to the rear and the front is decorated with vertical mouldings. The perforated lug has a smaller decorative (solid) lug in front. The head projects horizontally (for 9.3mm, with a width of 9.3mm), before turning at a right angle to the front of the bow. The bow is of rectangular section with straight sides converging towards the leg. The bow is decorated with three rectangular recessed cells, which would have held enamel. The panel has a grooved border. Two leaf mouldings are present on the bow before the break, where the bow is of D-shaped section.
