Gilded copper alloy disc brooch, Hattatt's 'gilded glass centre boss' type. Missing pin and central setting. The spring survives on the single pierced lug, with an iron axis bar. Traces of silvering on the back extend onto catchplate and spring lug. The centre setting is enclosed by a 2mm high rim; in the middle is a raised 2.5mm diameter ring and around this a dark gritty decayed material.A single flat band, with patchily surviving gilding, has a continuous row of S stamps. Diameter 25mm, thickness at rim 2mm. As Hattatt no 1214; this later Roman type was produced in Britain.
