The mace head is oval in plan and has a drilled hole in the centre on either side however they do not go all the way through.  The surface of the mace has been polished and is very smooth to the touch.  The macehead has split on one side exposing two clear striations in the stone.  These striations were probably weak points in the stone which eventually caused the split.  Approximately one half of one side is missing.
