A small cast lead, spindle whorl dating from Early Medieval period, about AD 700 - 850. This object is of uneven thickness and the central hole is off centre towards the thinner side of the object. It has one flat face, and one uneven face, but is probably of Walton Rogers form A2. The diameter is 14.6mm, thickness 8.5mm, weight 9g and it has an central perforation with an internal diameter of 6.2mm.

It appears that this is probably a very small spindle whorl of form A2 as described in Walton Rogers (2007). The diameter of the central perforation suggests it may date from the early to  Mid Saxon periods.

Class: Walton Rogers form A2
