Grey-buff flint possibly collected from the East Coast, backed blade. A flake with a broad flake trimmed from cortex, perhaps re-formed, on its dorsal side, and with a bulbar ventral surface. Invasive angled scalar retouch trims further cortex from a limited zone on one shorter side, while very short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows a longer curving edge. The partially re-formed cortex on the opposite and shorter side may have helped pressure to be brought to bear on the putative cutting edge. Probably a swiftly improvised tool. The lack of patina on struck surfaces might suggest the object was subsequently incorporated into a sealed context. Suggested date: Neolithic, 4000-2350 BC
