Short profile:

Adam studied for his undergraduate degree in Archaeology and Prehistory at Sheffield University, and his MA in at Leicester University. After graduating Adam worked as a field archaeologist and then as Assistant Keeper of Archaeology at Lincoln Museum before joining the scheme in 2003. Adam is currently studying for his PhD at the University of Leicester. His thesis 'Artefacts, Assemblages, and Activity Areas: The Portable Antiquities Scheme in Lincolnshire, c. 10,000BC to AD1700' explores the contribution of PAS data to our understanding of the archaeology of Lincolnshire. This is undertaken on a broad scale for each archaeological period and establishes the number of new 'activity areas' that PAS data present. More detailed analysis of the relationship between artefact scatters, landscape, bias and 'sites' are then given for the Middle Saxon period. Much of the research takes a multi-period view of the data, assessing how assemblages on shorter-scales of time might be better understood by placing them within their longer-term settings. The concept of the 'persistent place' is used. Adam is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries, London.
