Some of our staff are now starting to produce detailed analysis of their finds data in Google maps and then importing the results into their blogs – for example Philippa Walton and Adam Daubney. Today, Google released some great new features for their mapping app:
- Import for KML, geoRSS, KMZ files from a local file on your computer
- Collaboration with colleague support – just enter their email
- Mapping of terrain
To use the first two features, you need a Google account, which of course is free. So how long now until these web apps replace the desktop GIS or one can upload excel spreadsheet with co-ords directly into Google Earth or Google maps?
